kelly cutrone at 6am

by Crystal Gibson on July 22, 2010

I am afraid of Kelly Cutrone watching her on The City, but imagine Kelly Cutrone sans caffeine at 6AM: nightmare!! Shireen sent me this video this morning asking me for a response (flattered). So, here goes: Cutrone is very much respected in the PR world, her book ‘If You Have to Cry, Go Outside’ has been read by millions of women (and men) and she’s now made a name for herself as a television personality. Wait! There’s more, The Huffington Post most recently syndicated her Tumblr videos entitled, ‘Wake Up and Get Real’ – Cutrone and her bestie Justine Bateman’s talk show. They insist that they talk about things that are not discussed during The View, likely because their show isn’t on cable..oh and it’s Kelly Cutrone.

So, episode 29.5 (huh?) takes place in Toronto.. oh no.

I, too would be super angry if the staff neglected to wake me up at a particular hour, moreover forgot to bring my coffee however, I think Kel needs to get off her high horse a bit and handle the situation less like a whiny child and more like an assertive woman (that I think she is). Threatening to complain and post the video on the Huffington Post’s homepage isn’t so discerning considering the staff at the Sheraton are likely unaware of the site..or of her for that matter. Furthermore, insisting that you are a ‘television personality’ is so not classy at all. I would’ve much preferred to watch/listen to Kelly bitch them out in her usual bat-shit crazy way rather than listen to her whine like, ohh.. I don’t know Olivia Palermo.

Thoughts?

reason #52 why drake should get hit by a streetcar

by Crystal Gibson on July 21, 2010

He is launching a Toronto Music Festival

Apparently this isn’t breaking news – people know about it. I suppose I wouldn’t since I don’t care/try to ignore everything that is related to Drake. The OVO Festival will be taking place on August 1 (Caribana Weekend) at the Molson Amphitheatre.

Here’s what’s wrong with this picture:

- this is not a festival

- $93 for a one-day show with lame artists is ridiculous

- why is Drake trying to monopolize Toronto people on Caribana Weekend?

- Toronto doesn’t care about Drake (especially because he thinks it’s so unsafe) – cue: TTC quote: “I feel unsafe in Toronto at all times. I’m a one of one. There’s no one else you can hate as much as me if you hate money, or you hate success.”

- Toronto has numerous music festivals that are way more legit

And if the thought of him hosting a music festival wasn’t enough, here’s what he’s saying about OVO:

“I truly believe this is entertainment at a level that the city has never seen before,” Drake said in a statement. “I’m hoping that it is a safe and magical night and that OVO Festival becomes tradition every year.”

No, I will not link you to a page where you can buy tickets because frankly, I don’t want anyone to go.

ctv sample suggests only women suffer heartbreak

by Crystal Gibson on July 19, 2010

Ugh, as if this morning’s Canada AM segment was legitimate. Apparently a new study claims that heartbreak can produce the same physical symptoms as those suffering cocaine withdrawal. Say wha? Nonetheless, I watched the first few seconds of the video and wondered why the sample respondents were all women. Uhh.. I remember research methods in first-year university, and if there’s one thing I learned from that yawn-fest it was to get a legitimate sample. These poor women girls look like they are on the verge of tears when confronted about their break-ups which doesn’t really surprise me; moreover, where the hell are the heartbroken guys?

If CTV was having a problem finding a sample, I could’ve led them in the right direction… hipster band dudes anyone?

Guh!

borrowing from old spice

by Crystal Gibson on July 16, 2010

We’ve all been blown away by Old Spice’s marketing campaign, they’ve captured everyone’s attention online with direct video replies to tweets and probably have the most popular YouTube channel of the week. Will people jump up and buy Old Spice now? Not likely, but they’re damn well aware of what the brand is about.

Michael and I decided to do something like Old Spice.. well, minus the videos of us half naked ’cause I’m not sure either of us could rock that look (sorry MJ) – we asked AUX TV’s Twitter followers to @ reply us in exchange for a #FF (follow Friday) from us.

This is what we got:

Well, we actually got plenty more than this – but it’s a sample. Michael was having back and forth conversations with followers, something that we don’t always do. I mean, we have the regular tweeter that eagerly chats or responds to us – but some were talking about cupcakes, trades and pledging their allegiance to us!

This made me wonder if as a brand, AUX seems too authoritative. I mean, we’re not – anyone that knows MJ and myself can easily attest to our craziness nay personableness (that’s a word, who knew?) Anyway – we want people to talk to us, we want people to tell us when they think a story isn’t great or what they think of a video we premiere.

Anyway. It was a cool experiment – we had fun reading all the tweets, oh – and we DID #FF every single one of our fans!

In other music news, Broken Social Scene released a video (made by a fan) in response to the G20 summit, using the song ‘Meet Me in the Basement’, off the new record ‘Forgiveness Rock Record’.

Check it out:
