jeanne beker and I bond over louboutins

by Crystal Gibson on August 26, 2010

I may or may not have exhausted my gushing, so bare with me if this post sounds more fangirl than legitimate.

Lisa of Hip and Urban Girl’s Guide sent Jessica and I out to preview Jeanne Beker’s new clothing line, Edit, which will be sold exclusively at The Bay. Jess and I got there early (we forgot the ‘fashionably late’ memo that everyone else had) and Jeanne was finishing up an interview with FT. Edit’s HQ was simplistic and stunning. Nothing covered the walls except the white paint and two life-size photos of Tara Gill, Edit’s F/W 2010 campaign model. There were four mannequins draped in pieces from the collection, accessorized with shoes from The Bay. There was a rolling rack with more clothes including a fantastic sparkly jacket (one of Jeanne’s favs).

I sat down with her (pictured above) while the other late fashionistas watched on. We shot the shit chatted for awhile about FT (celebrating it’s 25th anniversary), FQ and her other endeavours, including two books coming out next spring. Please check out my full report here.

Jeanne and I bonded over Loboutins (which she wears in the Edit lookbook) and when it was all over I took a swig of water and left with a stupid smile on my face.

a flawed foursquare

by Crystal Gibson on August 15, 2010

There are many ways to cheat your way through Foursquare, but why have the app if you’re going to lie about where you are?

None of the lying and unfair stealing of mayorships bothered me until a few weeks ago when my Starbucks mayorship was stolen. I was livid! Who else in suburban Mississauga has Foursquare other than the people I work with (they never check in anyway)? I tried to decipher who this mystery mayor was by opening her profile, I couldn’t help think that she looked awfully familiar. The next morning I checked back in, sure enough the new Mayor was there (may I add that she is a shitty mayor considering the music selection playing that morning – if it were me, as mayor I’d stand up for my Starbucks patrons and request better tunes). I approached the counter and looked ‘Jess G’ in the eye – well, you can imagine my absolute dismay when I realized that it was an employee that was mayor. Naturally, an employee is likely to have mayorship of their place of work – I’m the mayor of both AUX TV’s (sorry Joffe) – however, it defeats the purpose of having ‘deals’. Lucky for me, I became the mayor first I, therefore cashed in on my Starbucks deal early – now that Jess is the mayor, there is no way that anyone else will be able to steal mayorship and enjoy the mayoral perks.

I cannot help but wonder if this is a tactic used by companies to ensure that they don’t lose out on income while maintaining the seemingly progressive participation in companies such as Foursquare.

What do you think?

i wanna kiss your eyelids & corrupt your dreams

Of Montreal – Gallery Piece
Found at Genius MP3 Music Search Engine

A post of the arbitrary – there is so much happening right now that I haven’t been able to sit down and blog about everything in depth.

Trying to explain (to my Mom) how awesome it is to be on the front page of Mashable was frustrating. She wasn’t very interested – so thanks to everyone else who took part in congratulating and celebrating this huge achievement with me!

Cuteness

I found Chiara Ferragni on Lookbook and I fell in love with her style/blog. I’ve been following her and her boyfriend Richie as they travel around Europe for summer break. Anyway, she made this super cute video of the two of them frolicking around – I swooned. I never swoon. I also dig the Train song that she used – oh God, I just admitted I like a Train song.

I love this hipster wedding video.

eat. pray. puke.

by Crystal Gibson on August 15, 2010

This is one movie that I wished was better than the book – after seeing Eat. Pray. Love. on opening night, I’m not quite sure which was worse. I just went back and read the post I wrote when I first started reading it and discovered that I was a lot more optimistic. I didn’t get past Eat (Italy) – I wanted to, I really did – especially since the book was given to me by someone whom I share similarities. However, I was not able to relate to Gilbert’s life at all – none of it.

I told Abby that I really wanted to identify with the movie, I wanted Liz’s life to be portrayed magically on the big screen with Julia Roberts helping me to understand. Instead, I got a melodramatic, drawn out Hollywood disaster. I wanted to leave halfway through India, frankly that time of her life was so boring but Abs insisted on waiting for love (Bali). The only part that slightly melted my heart was the mixtape.

Lame.
