Super cute crooner, Jackson Harris made a video for Jay-Z’s track, ‘Empire State of Mind’. His voice is so melodic and the video has beautiful scenes – I think this video is much more enjoyable than Jay’s since it showcases New York’s nooks rather than solely the skyscrapers that we see all the time.
The heat, oh God the heat was unbearable in Toronto. It didn’t help that AUX (along with various music affiliates) were stationed at The Drake Sky Yard for the Polaris Short List announcement. Oh, who am I kidding – I am at no stage in my career to complain about having to get out of the office, drink free beer (or caesars – Michael lost a bet) and get to listen to the list of the top 10 Canadian musicians vying for the fantastic Polaris Music Prize.
So Michael and I are listening to Grant Lawrence read off the list of nominees – the last one is declared (I don’t remember who it was) but I sat there shocked.
This was my initial tweet:
Minutes later, Mister Polaris Prize himself, Steve Jordan came up to me and said, ‘Are you Crystal?’ ‘Yes,’ I responded coolly forgetting that moments ago I dissed the list. He proceeded to thank me for being present and chatted a bit with AUX. A few people scared approached me later and insisted that I made a huge mistake tweeting when I did – I believed them and got a little worried. Turns out Steve loved the tweet (I don’t see why he wouldn’t) and all is well in the world of creating controversy.
However, I think all of the artists chosen hone plenty of artistic merit and I look forward to the gala in September and to celebrate whoever claims this esteemed prize.
What do you think? Did your favs make the list? Who would you have preferred to have seen?
His album TSOL nominated for the short-list (and whom I stalked), Shad!
The very cute Owen Pallett (listen to his album Heartland)
Honestly, the past few days have been magical – nothing extraordinary happened, but the littlest things have made me feel so grateful!!
Last night I got to interview one of my favourite bands, Silversun Pickups at Tattoo where they also played a ’secret show’. There is something so wonderful about having access to incredibly artistic people and I had an ‘aha’ moment after the interview and just realized how blessed I am to be doing what I love EVERY SINGLE DAY. We stayed for the show (which was absolutely amazing). I don’t remember the last time I jumped around and sang so loudly, even in my Marni heels!!! City TV was there interviewing the band as well, then did some interviews of the fans. Naturally I moseyed my way over and got myself on camera to talk about how cool it was that they played a secret show on their night off, etc.. I have an obsession with telling people how I feel – the camera is the best outlet for that – wait for me world, I’ll be in your faces soon! There’s something else that I’m working on and I hope hope hope it gets green lit so I can tell everyone about it!!! GET EXCITED!
I finally got the courage to send an email to my ex-crush so that he can return my prized vintage Gucci belt. I thought I was able to live without it – not the case! I felt good and super strong and realized that the situation was completely ridiculous – I hate to admit it but when I spend a lot of time with someone who focuses on trying to find love, I tend to do it too – that is, until I snap out of the phase and realize – sheesh girl, you’re so unattractive. So, I’m sorry to the poor guy that had to meet desperate Crystal.
It’s wedding weekend – Saturday and Sunday will be chaotic with make-up appointments, hair appointments, nail appointments…fu*k – I don’t have a dress. Slash – who am I kidding, I love getting dressed up. Follow my tweets for all my date-less whining and drunken musings!
PS. Social Media day was a blast for the two minutes I was there – I love walking into a venue where I know everyone – fun! I also had a blast at Jeremy + James‘ birthday bonanza at Tequila Sunrise – I did not sing, but I chatted with Jas – heart her! Oh! And Joe lent me his iPhone charger…err.. I’ll get that back to you soon brother xo.
Have a fantastic and super exciting long weekend everyone.
Aaron Sorkin’s people are doing a great job making The Social Network seem like a super scary movie. The ominous score and the foreshadowing words are enough to keep me at the edge of my seat in anticipation for its release. Not to mention that reading The Facebook Effect has me more and more drawn to Zuckerberg’s life and business tactics. Damn you!
